Outlines make shapes more noticeable. Often, we use outlines because the values of our shapes or areas are not clear enough. It’s usually more elegant to make a shape stand out by increasing its value contrast. Then, if you want to use a line, don’t force it to outline a shape, let it be free to traverse or describe a new shape that has no value at all. Let lines be lines, and shapes be shapes.
