Remember that every choice we make in our art provides an opportunity to show a difference. If the edges of all the shapes or forms are handled the same way, they will feel the same way in this regard. In the diagram below, notice how refreshing it feels to have a sharp edge on just one or two of the shapes, letting the others remain more soft edged. If we want to make something feel soft edged, what better way than to include its opposite (a clean-edged shape) nearby for comparison.
