How do I remove a cold wax varnish for further painting?

A thin layer of cold wax can be removed with mineral spirits. Using some shop towels, wet the surface of the painting with mineral spirits, and wipe off with towels. You may need to repeat to remove all the wax residue. Wash with soapy water before painting on top.
